Home » Football NewsPatriots start fast, run over East St. John 34-7!September 17, 2012 John Curtis Christian High SchoolIt didn't take long for the Patriots to flex their muscle Friday night against the East St. John Wildcats. Some were worried the Patriots would come out flat after the huge win over nationally ranked Plant High from Tampa, Florida last week. For those who had that mindset, they were sadly mistaken from the opening drive and throughout the first half. The Patriots marched right down the field on their first offensive possession, one in which was capped off by a 1-yard quarterback sneak from senior Patrick Morton. After giving up one first down the punt return team set up another 1-yard sneak by Morton. The punt return featured Richard Allen galloping down the Patriot sideline. Allen was sprung free by a devastating block by Raekwon James and a wall of Patriot blockers. It didn't take long for the Patriots to jump out to the early 14-0 lead. The second quarter would provide just as much fireworks out of the Patriot offense. This time, the Patriots went quick strike. Morton found senior running back Sherman Badie out of the backfield for a 66 yard scamper down the Wildcat sideline as he raced to paydirt and a 21-0 lead. The defense swarmed the Wildcat offense, led by their quarterback who is a Tulane football commit. The defense was led by senior linebacker Duke Riley, who collected 15 tackles and 2 sacks, and senior defensive lineman Cyle Cortez, with 11 tackles and a sack. To wrap up the scoring in the second half, senior running back Tevin Horton burst through the line untouched and raced 70 yards for the final points of the half and a 27-0 halftime lead. In the second half, things slowed down, considerably. After the Patriots' first series on offense resulted in a 3 yard TD run by James, the Wildcats got in a little bit of offensive rhythm and controlled the ball and the clock. The Wildcats drove the length of the field but the Patriot defense would force a goalline stand and keep the Wildcats off the board, temporarily. After the second team offense got a few first downs, the Wildcats forced a Patriot punt. The Wildcats put together another long drive, this time the drive resulted in a touchdown with just about four minutes left in the game. The Patriots were able to run out the clock and win the game decisively 34-7. The Patriots will be back in action Thursday night at Muss Bertolino field in Kenner when they face the Cohen Green Hornets at 7:00. The district game will be streamed live on this site, http://www.ihigh.com/johncurtis for your viewing pleasure. All alumni are welcomed back and the classes of 1980-1995 will be recognized at halftime and throughout the game. A tent will be set up at the game and food will be brought by JCCS alums David Priddy and Stepehen McCready who own and operate Foghorn's restaurant. Come out and support the Patriots this Thursday night! There will be a special drawing for two alumni to be guest honorary game captains approximately 15 minutes before the game! You can also mingle and participate with the band, cheerleaders, dance line and others, if you wish. Bring the family and come have a GREAT time with your Patriot family! See you at the game!
