Cross Country teams compete in Hudson

The Lumberjack and Lady Jack cross country teams competed on Saturday, October 10, 2011, in the Hudson Invitational. The Lumberjacks varsity squad was led by Hector Lopez.  He ran a personal best of 17:16 for the 3.1 mile course, and placed 5th.  He was followed by Andrew Hernandez in 37th place, Scott Smith in 50th, Jose Flores 53rd, Leo Rodriguez 58th and Steven Badeux in 62nd.  The Lady Jacks were once again led by a solid performance from Kendal Mitchell in 16th position.  Sara Badeux was the next runner from Diboll in 38th place, Paige Funderburk in 43rd, and Ariela Gonzalez in 44th place.  Competing at the junior varsity level for the Lumberjacks was Ariel Encarnacion in 7th, Zach Moreno 8th, Brandon Hunziker 15th, Rudy Jasso 23rd, and Fil Escobedo 32nd.  Also competing were several Diboll Middle School students.  The boys team was led by Caleb Stewart in 18th, Jair Ruiz 49th, Roberto Flores 58th, Aaron Cantu 85th, and Baltazar Lara in 90th.  For the Lady Jacks, Shelby East ran a strong race to finish 10th.She was followed by Bayley in 56th, Holly Willsie 86th, Liz Martinez 98th, and Emily Thompson in 99th.  The teams will be back in action on Saturday, October 15, at The Lufkin Coke Classic at Lufkin High School.
