Smart finishes 85th for IU East

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. — IU East’s Joey Smart carded a 73 in Friday’s final round of the NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship to finish the event with a 54-hole score of 229, good for 85th place in the 156-player field.
Smart is the first IU East golfer to compete at the NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship.
Smart teed off at 8 a.m. at the LPGA International Jones Course to complete the last three holes of his third round. Smart carded three quick pars to finish his round of 73, one of the top 25 scores of the day.
James Marchesani of Oklahoma City University was medalist in a playoff with a 5-under 54-hole score of 211 on the par-72, 6,928-yard course. College of Coastal Georgia won the team title with a 54-hole score of 865.
