PITTSBURGH - The Indiana University East volleyball team fell 25-15, 23-25, 25-14, 25-22 at Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Point Park University on Sept. 6 on the opening night of Point Park's Battle of the Boulevard. The NAIA No. 31 Red Wolves (10-2, 1-1) had a nine-match winning streak snapped. The No. 22 Pioneers (4-7, 1-2) snapped a seven-match losing streak. "We showed our youthfulness in our first conference road test," said IU East coach Adam Stevenson. "Too many unforced errors, and we started slow in every set. When you are playing against a tough opponent, you can't give them an early lead and expect to always come back." The Red Wolves trailed by at least six points in all four sets. IU East climbed out of a 7-1 deficit to win the second set and nearly erased a nine-point lead in the fourth set, but Point Park held on to finish the match in four. "We showed some heart by making the match interesting," Stevenson said. Sophomore outside hitter Mallory Livingston (Union City, Ohio/Mississinawa Valley High School) totaled 12 kills and 13 digs for IU East. Senior libero Meagan Stoker (Celina, Ohio/Celina High School) made 23 digs. Junior setter Lindsay Kurz (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran High School) had 31 assists, nine digs and four aces. IU East concludes to Battle of the Boulevard with two more matches Sept. 7 at Point Park. The Red Wolves face Tiffin University at 9 a.m. and Montreat College at 1 p.m. Live coverage of both matches will be available at iueredwolves.com.
