SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The Indiana University East volleyball team fell 25-23, 13-25,
25-27, 25-20, 16-14 against host school Morningside College on Nov. 28 on the second
day of pool play at the NAIA Volleyball National Championship.
The 12th-ranked Red Wolves (44-5) will not advance to the single-elimination portion
of the tournament. IU East will conclude its first appearance at the NAIA National
Championship Final Site on Nov. 29 against No. 1 Concordia (Calif.).
Morningside (17-15) fought off two match points for IU East in the fifth set and
handed the Red Wolves their second five-set setback in two days.
"Disappointed and frustrated," said IU East senior middle hitter Breezy Strete
(Troy, Ohio/Troy High School). "This one hurts really badly. We all wanted it, all
16 of us, but we didn't do it."
Junior outside hitter Sarah Shilling (Warsaw, Ind./Warsaw Community High School) led
IU East with 22 kills, her career high for the second consecutive match.
The IU East-Concordia match starts at 9 p.m. IU East time on Nov. 29. IU East will
play against a No. 1-ranked team for the first time in the volleyball program's
history. Concordia (34-0) is the lone unbeaten team in the country and the only team
with a 2-0 record in Pool A.
