Home » Basketball NewsTRIMNELL LEAVING IU EASTJune 12, 2012 IU EAST BROADCAST SPORTSJunior guard Matt Trimnell is leaving the IU mens basketball program. Trimnell was named first team All-KIAC last season. Trimnell averaged 17.5 points per game and was second to teammate Marcus Issacs in voting for the KIAC player of the year honors. In his two seasons at IU East, Trimnell averaged 17.3 points per game while shooting 40% from three point range. Trimnell was also one of the best in the KIAC in free throw shooting at 81.6% for his career. Trimnell said, " I didn't see our team progressing to do any damage in the tournament in the next two years. I'm not comfortable being just a national qualifier every year". Trimnell added, "I felt there are better things we could have done to be better in the off season". According the head coach Mark Hester, "Matt decided one day to leave. We wish him the best but we are excited about moving on". Hester added, " No one is irreplaceable. We are a program, a system and a team. The guys will step up and the machine will keep working". IU East went 24-8 last season, 11-2 in the KIAC and qualified for the NAIA Division II national championships. Trimnell says he isn't sure where he wants to play next.
