Bend, OR – November 01, 2011 – For three years, Inspireum has been searching for the most inspiring kids on high school football teams around the country. Partnering with PARADE, Inspireum today announced their Top 50 semifinalists. Over 350 football players representing all 50 states were nominated by coaches, parents, teammates, and friends who have a ‘Rudy’ on their team. The Trusted Sports Foundation awards $25,000 in academic scholarships, with a $7,500 college scholarship presented to the winner. America can vote for the stories that inspire them at www.HighSchoolRudyAwards.com.
Issac Villafana of McGregor, Texas embodies the characteristics of a ‘Rudy’, and has been named a Top 50 Semifinalist. Though Issac began his football career as the team manager, it wasn’t long until he suited up for a game his senior year. Standing at 3’9” tall, he is a true inspiration to the McGregor High School Bulldog football team. His big heart is witnessed on and off the football field. He is often described as having determination and drive unlike any other athlete. Currently holding the spot of senior receiver on his high school football team, it is safe to say that Issac Villafana is a true inspiration.
The High School Football ‘Rudy’ Award Selection Committee lineup is expanding, with the recent additions of former Dallas Cowboy, Troy Aikman and former New England Patriot, Tedy Bruschi. “I’ve known Troy and Tedy for a long time,” said Drew Bledsoe, Chairman of the Rudy Awards Selection Committee. “They both understand how important sports can be in the positive development of a child and how one member of the team can contribute so much, elevating everyone else. They’re a natural fit for this selection committee.” Bledsoe leads the team uncovering the most inspirational high school football players in America.
“As I learn more about these kids and their amazing commitment to football, I get a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye,” said John Ballantine, Founder of Inspireum. “No matter what they’re faced with, or the challenges they overcome….all they want to do is play football. They share their courage with us every day, and we’re honored to present their stories to America.”
Next on the Inspireum roster will be the announcement of their Top 12 on December 11 in PARADE Magazine. The winner of the High School Football ‘Rudy’ Awards will be announced on January 15, 2012. A complete list of the Top 50 semifinalists can be found online at www.HighSchoolRudyAwards.com.
