Using Local Segments in a Broadcast

January 25, 2011

Local Segments allows you to insert local audio or video files from your computer into your broadcasts when you need to fill space, like during pregame shows, halftime or timeouts.

You will need to add any Local Segments to the system BEFORE you begin your broadcast. After initiating the Live Streaming tool, click on the "Local Segments" button.

To add a file, click on "Add New Segment". For this example, we'll add a 30 second audio spot.

Click the "Browse" button to locate the file on your computer, then double-click it.

Then enter a description of the file, make sure the Source Type is correct (it should be set automatically according to the type of file you selected), and choose the length of the clip. The times in the drop-down menu are all industry standard.

NOTE: It is very important to our system that your ad spots be created to match the supported times EXACTLY.

Then just click on "Save and Exit."

You will be taken back to the initial Local Segments window. You can add more ad files here - so when finished, just click on "Exit".

When broadcasting, you will now see a button for "Segments and Commercials". The player will include your Local Segments, as well as iHigh network commercials in various lengths. When you need to play a commercial, click the "Segments and Commercials" button.

You will now see the "Segments and Commercials" player. During a break in the broadcast (such as a timeout or halftime), you can play the Local Segment we uploaded earlier. If you need to fill more time, you can play other Local Segments or any of the iHigh Network ads (these ads require a :10 prep time before playing) after the current file has finished playing. A progress bar will let you know when the file is completed.
