Katy Advances in Playoffs and Sets Scoring Record against Westbury

The Katy Tigers prove why they are ranked number one in the state and send a message that they are full of depth and ready for a State title run with a decisive 77-7 win over HISD's Westbury High School.

Senior running back Adam Taylor stepped up with four touchdowns and 224 yard rushing against the 3-7 Rebels. Taylor who verbally  committed to Nebraska this week led the way for Katy who turned this game into a practice or otherwise known a "door knob game" where everybody on the team gets a turn.

The Katy coaching staff not only played all the back ups they also let all the post season "pull-ups" from the jv, sophomore and freshman teams get some time on the field. This included Taylor's protege Rodney Anderson who had one rushing touchdown and a punt return for a score.

After Anderson "tricky" Ricky Bickham rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns making his totals for the season 479 yards and 10 touchdowns. Demonte Davenport and Jeff Hancock got in the game but failed to score.

The big news of the day was when freshman running back and play off pull-up Kyle Porter had a 55 yard touchdown rush resetting Katy's high score record for the third time this season. Porter will forever be in the record books as the player who scored the 76th point in a game. Manny Mendoza was money all night never missing an extra point and added the 77th point of the game as the Tigers took the bi-district championship last Thursday at Butler stadium.

It was obvious that coach Gary Joseph was not trying to run the score up as the starters didn't play much in the second half. Another record was broke when Isaiah Brown caught his 9th interception of the season breaking the record set by Terrence Fredrick and Ryan Mouton who both took time off of their busy NFL schedules to come watch the playoff game. Tanner Ebrecht and Sy Slayter also had interceptions during this game.

Katy will face Langham Creek next Friday at noon at Reliant Center.

Here is the highlight video we made of this historic round one game.
