Katy Tiger Spring Red and White Game
May 25, 2012By Doug Johnson of The Grind
Every spring Tiger head coach Gary Joseph elects to take the four weeks spring practice instead of the one extra week in Agust the U.I.L. allowes. Some coaches (like Joseph) use the spring session to re-evaluate his athletes after the offseason workouts and make position changes if needed. Other schools that have less depth and large numbers of athletes in spring sports like baseall and track take the extra week of practice before the season starts in August.
One of Katy's many traditions is the Spring Red & White scrimmage which brings out Katy fans by the thousands. How many other schools can say they sell out Rhode's Stadium for a spring scrimmage? Even though the "Roaring Band From Tigerland" was not in the stands blasting out "awsome song" and Train horns the energy is high every year as Katy fan watches in anticipation of who is going to step up and replace the previous years senior starters.
Coach Joseph uses the Red & White game a last chance observation of all the players and as a reward for all the hard work done during spring ball. "its fun for them" Joseph said, "the kids like the competetion after a long four weeks of drills and workouts"
