Varsity Scholars Bowl Advances to Regionals

February 11, 2013
By J Armstead of Hoover High School

From Head Coach Josh Rutsky:

The Varsity Scholars Bowl team equalled the feat of the JV squad this Friday, advancing with an unblemished record to move to the next round of competition.  Seniors Sean Moran and Michael Jaramillo led the way with outstanding performances in all four rounds, with strong contributions from fellow seniors Jordan Laporta, Stephen Church, Cole Griffin, and Junior Rachel Parker.

ASCA rounds have a maximum score of 700 potential points.  In their first round, Hoover scored 610.  The other rounds were similarly lopsided.  For the event, Hoover's 2125 total points in four rounds gave them the top performance in the district by about 225 points over the second best team--Spain Park's varisty.  The Alabama School of Fine Arts rounded out the top three, followed by Indian Springs, Oak Mountain, and Evangel Christian, so we found ourselves atop a good list.
