Scholars Bowl Results

December 10, 2012
By J Armstead of Hoover High School

From Coach Josh Rutsky:

It was a good weekend for the Bucs all around, it seems!  The Scholars Bowl team was in action this weekend, with the varsity playing at the Chattahootchee CATT VIII tournament in Atlanta, GA.  60 teams competed at this event, including multiple top 10 teams from last year.  Hoover finished the day at 8-1, advancing to the quarterfinals before losing a good match to Dorman, SC.  This is the best finish Hoover has ever had at the CATT tourney.  Seniors Sean Moran, Jordan LaPorta, Stephen Church, Michael Jaramillo, and Cole Griffin all made the drive to Atlanta AFTER cheering on the Bucs at the Super 6, and competed on about 3 hours of sleep.  I am thinking of keeping them awake all night before the next tourney to see if we win it.

Meanwhile, our 10th grade squad got ready for the January JV State tournament by taking on the varsity division at the West Point Invitational in Cullman.  Max Gunn, Beryl Van Ness, Savannah Stanley, and Madison Papp finished the day at 5-2, losing only to Gadsden City's varsity squad (a team of seniors that finished 4th in the state last year as juniors) and Randolph's seniors.

All of our players will be fundraising on Sunday, Dec. 23 at the Barnes and Noble at the Summit, where we will be happy to wrap your books, games, or other purchases.  Come out and support us if you get the chance!

Josh
