Home » General NewsCollege Cost Information from College and Career Specialist Cindy BondNovember 28, 2012 By J Armstead of Hoover High SchoolIn putting together some programming for our parents on cost of college I came across this college cost calculator on the Alabama 529 site. Alabama 529 is the savings plan that has come to the forefront for residents of Alabama as PACT is no longer an option for some families. I thought that some of you may want to look at this in reference to your own children, when I plugged in the information for my 7 year old I learned that we need to be saving $690.00 a month to pay for tuition, room and board at Auburn (he says he wants to be a vet) and it is projected to cost $166,516.00 for four years. Obviously that can/will change as will where he wants to go to college but the realities of the cost of a college education will not change. Whether you have a young child or not, this is important for us all to understand as what you are doing with your students every day in preparing them for success after high school can make a huge difference on what their college opportunities, not just by preparing them for the ACT but giving the foundation for success so they will not need remediation courses or even exposing them to career opportunities within your field so that they can begin college with a plan and hopefully graduate within 4 years. Just think, an extra year of college for my seven year old is valued at $41,629.00. http://www.collegecounts529.com/collegecostcalculator.asp
