Bucs vs. Vestavia Rivalry Series

 40 Years of Buccaneers vs. Vestavia Rebels (1972-2012)

 

   1972. 40 Years Ago. At least two siginificant things occured in Buccaneer football history. In January of that year, current head coach Josh Niblett was born. In the fall of that year, the Berry Buccaneers of Hoover first played the Vestavia Hills Rebels in football. It's a series which has continued year by year without any breakage.

    The Bucs had been established as a program for 10 years that season while the Rebels were just getting started and Berry won easily 45-0. However, as the series progressed, blowout wins by either team rarely came. There were at least 20 games where the winning team won by 7 points or less and several other contests were closely fought.

   The overall series record shows the Bucs ahead with 26 wins to the Rebels 18. As far as the home field advantage went, the Bucs have a record of 12 wins & 9 losses on their home field yet also lead the Rebels on their home field as well with 13 wins & 9 losses. One game was played on a neutral site (Legion Field) in 1980 with a Reb win.     The series has been an exciting, hard fought event and one which always needs to continue.
