Beard's Career-Best Paces Mastodons in Fargo

FARGO, N.D. - Behind a new personal-best from sophomore Brittany Beard, the IPFW women's cross country team fell in a quartet of dual matches at the 2014 North Dakota State Bison Open.
IPFW fell 42-20 to South Dakota State, 43-20 to North Dakota, 40-19 to North Dakota State, and 44-19 to South Dakota.
Beard, placed third overall in the field in a 5,000-meter time of 18:30.84, as the top four finishers in the field, Erin Teschuk of NDSU, Amber Eichorn of USD, and Katie Wetzstein of USD finished 39 seconds ahead of the fifth place competitor.
Rachel Kacer placed 29th for the Mastodons in a time of 20:27.31, as the trio of Taylor Busch, Andrea Bell, and Sydney Strang finished 36th, 37th, and 38th, respectively. Busch ran a time of 20:54.04 to lead the three, with Bell running a time of 21:02.62 and Strang 21:12.70 to close out the scoring five for the Mastodons.
Twins Breanna and Brittany Fensler rounded out the varsity seven for IPFW, Breanna placing 45th in a time of 21:45.17, and Brittany 50th in a time of 22:02.96.
Competing as an individual at the Oakland Golden Grizzly Open, Cheryl Morris ran a time of 18:01.0 for 4,000-meters, placing 42nd overall in the field.
The Mastodons return to action on September 5 when the squad travels to Charleston, Illinois to compete in the Eastern Illinois Walt Crawford Open.
