BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana field hockey team topped Miami (Ohio) today in its lone exhibition contest of the preseason, 6-2. The set-up was different from a typical contest in that today's action featured two 35-minute periods, followed by a 10-minute overtime period and a shootout.
"Anytime you have a scrimmage where you go against an opponent outside yourself who plays differently, it gives you that opportunity to make adjustments to something that you don't do as a team," said head coach Amy Robertson. "For us, it gave us a chance to see our people compete in games and how they do when they're fatigued."
"We looked fit, we looked ready," Robertson said. "You can play a lot of people in a lot of places and they just keep the balance and flow really well."
Valentina Neira and Kiley Merrill both found the back of the net for the visiting Redhawks.
Indiana will open the regular season on Aug. 29 in Louisville against the University of New Hampshire. The Hoosiers' home opener is slated for Sept. 5 against California.
