Sheehey To Begin Professional Career in Europe

August 5, 2014

Bloomington, Indiana - Will Sheehey, who scored 1,120 points in four years as a member of the Indiana University men's basketball team, has signed a contract with KK Budocnost of the Adriatic League in Podgorica, Montenegro. KK Buducnost will participate in the second-level of European competition, the EuroCup, and its first game will be on October 3.

"I'm really excited to get to Europe and begin my professional career," said Sheehey who came to IU from Sagemont High School in Florida. "It's a very competitive situation and a really good opportunity. As always, I will take things one day at time and see where it leads me."

He is the eighth Hoosier in the last three years under Tom Creanto sign a professional contract. He finished 37th in career scoring for the Hoosiers and averaged 8.6 points and 3.2 rebounds. He averaged 11.4 points and 4.0 rebounds this past year and was an All-Big Ten performer. As a junior in 2012-13, he was named Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year in helping IU to its first outright Big Ten Championship in 20 years.

"As I have said before, "I'm the luckiest guy in the world, because I had the best teammates in the world, I had the best coaches in the world, I have the best family in the world, and I played at the best university in the world," said Sheehey.

Individually, his biggest moment came as a sophomore when he hit a 15-footer in the final 13 seconds of the second half against VCU to send the Hoosiers to their first Sweet Sixteen in 10 years.

"That was a wonderful moment for the team and me personally," said Sheehey. "As time has gone on, I realized its importance and am proud of what our team accomplished."

Sheehey's deal with KK Budocnost is for one year.

Last summer, he played for Team USA in the World University Games. He played in eight games for Team USA, averaging 10.6 points in 17.3 minutes per game. He scored in double figures in five of the eight contests and shot 58.7-percent from the field and 63.6-percent from three point range.

Last month, Sheehey played for the New York Knicks in the NBA summer league, where he averaged 2.5 points, 0.3 rebounds in 7 minutes per game.
