Indiana Downs Youngstown State to Begin Regional Play, 10-2

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- Indiana (43-13) won its opening game of the NCAA Bloomington Regional with a 10-2 triumph over Youngstown State (16-37) on Friday night at Bart Kaufman Field. In front of a record 4,125 fans, the Hoosiers pounded 15 hits to move on in the winner's bracket.
Schwarber went 4-for-5 and added a double to go along with his 13th home run of the year. He totaled three RBI in the game and scored three times.
Travis' lone hit was a loud one as he hit a two-run shot for his 11th home run of 2014. He collected his 54th and 55th RBI of the season.
Sophomore Scott Effrosswas the starting pitcher for Indiana, getting the first start of his career. He earned the win to improve to 5-2 on the year. He went 4.0 innings, giving up an earned run with four strikeouts and a walk.
Schwarber started things in the bottom of the first with a single to right center with one out. Travis then followed with a walk to put runners on first and second for DeMuth. DeMuth cashed in with a double to bring home both Schwarber and Travis. Hartong then brought home DeMuth with a double of his own as the first inning closed with Indiana in front, 3-0.
Youngstown State responded with a run in the top of the second. It started as David Saluga walked with one out. Josh White followed with an RBI triple to deep centerfield.
The Hoosiers added to their total in the bottom of the third as the bash brothers went to work. Schwarber saw one pitch and hit it to the wall in right center for a triple. Travis then took the first pitch he saw over the wall in left center for his 11th long ball of the year. O'Conner later drew a bases loaded walk to push IU ahead 6-1 after three innings.
Schwarber struck again in the fifth as Indiana had runners on the corners with two outs. He launched a 1-1 pitch over the centerfield wall for his 13th home run of the season.
YSU scored its final run of the night in the top of the sixth thanks to a walk and pair of singles.
Indiana tacked on its final run in the bottom of that frame. Scott Donleyopened the inning with a triple and then scored on a DeMuth groundout.
The Hoosiers will take on Stanford on Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. ET. The Cardinal defeated Indiana State in the first game of the Regional, 8-1.
