The Sycamore Track & Field Teams to Send Nineteen Athletes to the 2014 NCAA East Preliminary Rou

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Nineteen Sycamores will head to Jacksonville, Florida next week for the NCAA East Preliminary Round. The NCAA announced the declared participants today.
The list includes ten men’s athletes from the Missouri Valley Conference championship team and nine women from the Missouri Valley Conference runner-up squad.
Sophomore Katie Wise led the Sycamores, as she qualified for three events in the meet. She will go into the meet ranked fifth in the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash after she ran times of 11.23 and 23.06 seconds last weekend at the MVC Championships. She will also run a leg of the 4 x 100 meter relay where they rank 14th in 44.76 seconds. Sophomore Demetra Camble, sophomore Chidera Obasih and freshman Alethia Marrero make up the remainder of the squad. Marrero will also go in as the last qualifier in the 400 meter hurdles in 59.71 seconds.
Senior Mary Theisen and junior Carmelia Stewart will both compete in two events during the meet. Theisen ranks ninth in the shot put with a throw of 54 feet 11.25 inches and she will be joined in that event by sophomore Whitney Walker who ranks 33rd with a throw of 50 feet even. Theisen ranks tenth in the discus with a throw of 176 feet 7 inches and she is joined by sophomore Katelyn Rutz in 47th with a throw of 162 feet 7 inches. Stewart ranks 31st in both the 100 meter hurdles and triple jump. Stewart ran 13.48 seconds to win the MVC Championship this season and she’ll try to better her jump of 41 feet 11.5 inches from earlier this year.
Sophomore Kimyanna Rudolph will fill out the women’s roster, as she ranks tenth in the pole vault with a jump of 13 feet 9.25 inches this year.
The hurdle crew will lead the Sycamore men, as they have five athletes entered between the 110 meter hurdles and 400 meter hurdles. Senior Greggmar Swift will go into the meet with number one time in the East Region with his 13.43 second clocking from the Illinois Twilight meet earlier this season and his teammate sophomore Adarius Washington will rank 13th after running 13.85 seconds at the MVC Championships last weekend. Senior Max Tuttle will go into the meet ranked sixth after running 50.80 seconds last weekend at the conference meet and he’ll be joined by juniors Jonathan Jackson in 12th (51.20) and Arqeil Shaw 25th (51.69) in the group.
The distance squad will bring three athletes with sophomore John Mascari leading the way with his tenth place ranking in the 10,000 meter run at 29:10.32. Junior Tristan Selby will join Mascari with his 44th place ranking in 29:45.83 and freshman David Timlin will head into the 1500 meter run ranked 42nd at 3:45.81.
Junior Byron Ferrell will head into the meet ranked 29th in the pole vault with a jump of 17 feet 00.25 inches and senior Chris Fields will go into the meet ranked 40th in the hammer throw with a toss of 197 feet 6 inches.
The meet will begin Thursday, May 29 and run through Saturday, May 31 in Jacksonville, Florida. The University of North Florida will host the meet.
