Box Score

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - In the final regular season game at Bart Kaufman Field, the Indiana Hoosiers (38-13, 21-3 Big Ten) showed why they will be the No. 1 seed at the Big Ten Tournament next week, posting a 8-0 shutout against Minnesota.

It is the sixth shutout of the season for the IU pitching staff and the fourth in Big Ten play. In the 24 Big Ten games this season, the Indiana staff did not allow a team to score more than four runs against them and finished with a staff ERA of 1.53 in conference action. That ERA is the lowest by a Big Ten team in conference action since 1965 (Iowa - 1.17).

Dustin DeMuth picked up two more hits and drove in a pair of runs on Senior Day while Scott Donley and Sam Travisboth registered two hits as well.

Senior Brian Korte (3-0) went five shutout innings, allowing just four hits and striking out two to pick up his third win of the season. Scott Effross tossed 2.2 innings of shutout relief, giving up just three hits before Jake Kelzerclosed things out with the final four outs.

The Hoosiers broke into the scoring column in the second inning when Scott Donley opened the frame with a double and moved to third base on a groundout. Then Brad Hartong's fly ball to right field was deep enough to score Donley and give the Hoosiers a 1-0 lead. Hartong would double in the fifth inning to extend his hit streak to 15 straight games.

Korte kept the Minnesota bats under control once the Hoosiers took the lead, putting up three shutdown innings.

Indiana extended the lead with back-to-back-to-back doubles to open the sixth inning by Casey Rodrigue, Kyle Schwarber and Sam Travisto make it a three run lead. DeMuth later singled to left to drive in the third run of the frame to give the Hoosiers a 4-0 edge.

The eighth inning Schwarber was issued a leadoff walk and Sam Travis followed with his second double of the game to put two runners in scoring position. Donley stepped in a drilled a single to right to score one run. Then DeMuth hit a chopper up the first base line that was fielded by the pitcher. As he went to tag DeMuth, the senior dove headfirst toward first base and avoided the tag for an infield single that drove in another run. Ramos drew that second walk of the inning for IU to load the bases for Tim O'Conner. The center fielder delivered a single that brought in two more runs to make it a 8-0 lead for the Hoosiers.

Jake Kelzersealed the win in style, recording his lone strikeout for the final out in the top of the ninth inning.

The Hoosiers will be the No. 1 seed at the Big Ten Tournament that runs May 21-25 at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb. Their first game will be at 6 p.m. ET on Wednesday against the No. 8 seed Iowa on the Big Ten Network.

Looking ahead, fans can reserve NCAA Postseason tickets by calling the IU Ticket Office at 1-866-IUSPORTS during normal business hours on Monday.
