ISU RELEASE

ST. LOUIS – The field for the 2014 Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Championship is set for next week's event at Bob Warn Field in Terre Haute, Ind., hosted by Indiana State University. The seeds, pairings, and time schedule were released by the league office Saturday afternoon after the conclusion of the regular season.

Evansville earned its second MVC regular-season title after finishing 15-6 in league play – and the Purple Aces have earned the tournament's top seed. Evansville will open play against No. 8 Southern Illinois (4-17 MVC) at 12:30 p.m. (EST) on Tuesday, May 20.

Host Indiana State is the tournament's No. 2 seed entering next week's championship. The Sycamores finished the regular-season with a 14-7 MVC record and will face seventh-seeded Bradley (5-16 MVC) in their opening game, the 7:30 p.m. (EST) nightcap on Tuesday evening.

The Sycamores dropped a 2-1 decision at Bradley Saturday which broke a seven-game winning streak. The loss also cost the Sycamores a share of the 2014 MVC regular season title. Indiana State was just a game back of Evansville entering today’s action and needed a win combined with an Evansville loss for a piece of the prize. Indiana State won the title in 2012 and were co-champions in 1985.

Dallas Baptist finished its first season of league play at 14-7 after sweeping its series against Southern Illinois in the league’s final weekend. Although the Patriots registered an identical MVC record with Indiana State, the Sycamores won the head-to-head series with the Patriots which gives Dallas Baptist the No. 3 seed in next week's championship. The Patriots will take on No. 6 Missouri State (9-12 MVC) in the tournament's 4:30 p.m. (EST) game on Tuesday afternoon.

No. 4 Wichita State (13-8 MVC) will open play at 9:00 a.m. (EST) Tuesday morning against fifth-seeded Illinois State (10-11 MVC) who the Shockers just swept in their final weekend series in Normal, Ill.

Schedule for Tuesday, May 20

Game 1: No. 4 Wichita State vs. No. 5 Illinois State, 9 AM

Game 2: No. 1 Evansville vs. No. 8 Southern Illinois, 12:30 PM

Game 3: No. 3 Dallas Baptist vs. No. 6 Missouri State, 4 PM

Game 4: No. 2 Indiana State vs. No. 7 Bradley, 7:30 PM

All times are listed as Eastern Standard Time (EST)

Indiana State to Host MVC Championship

Indiana State will serve as host for the 2014 Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Championship for the first time in school history, from May 20-24. The 2014 event will take place at Bob Warn Field, a 2,000-seat stadium that has undergone a number of changes over the past several years.

In 2009, the facility underwent a renovation that included new Field Turf, dugouts, seating area, concessions, restrooms, locker rooms, and a press box. Prior to the 2013 season, a new padded outfield wall, foul poles and warning track were installed. Prior to this season, bathrooms were added to both dugouts, two field level suites were added next to the dugouts, new backstop padding, and a complete revamp of the press box to include four radio dedicated booths and a large video/TV booth.

Championship Format

For the fifth consecutive season, the 2014 Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Championship will welcome all eight league members to compete for the Valley's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. This year's format will divide the eight teams into two pods based on regular-season finish (Seeds 1, 4, 5 and 8; Seeds 2, 3, 6 and 7). Each four-team bracket will be a double-elimination format, with the winners squaring off in a one-game championship on Saturday evening.

Games are played at 9:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 4:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. each of the first three days, two "if necessary" games at 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday, with the championship game airing on Fox Sports Midwest at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. All times are Eastern Standard Time (EST).
