Butler Takes 5-2 Setback vs. Georgetown

BUTLER BASEBALL RELEASE
INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler baseball team was defeated by Georgetown on Friday afternoon by the final score of 5-2. Steve Anderson led the charge for the Hoyas with a 4-for-5 effort from the plate that included two doubles, an RBI single and a solo home run.
Anderson provided Georgetown with offense, and right-hander Matt Smith did his part on the mound as Georgetown limited Butler to just six hits. Chris Maranto and Nick Bartolone each recorded a triple against GU helping the Bulldogs post two runs in the matchup.
Georgetown scored one run in the first, one in the fourth, two in the fifth and one more in the seventh to end the game with five. The Hoyas were able to close the door on Butler in the bottom of the ninth as Tim Davis entered the game from the bullpen in the ninth to earn his seventh save of the season.
Gunner Johnson took the loss on the mound for Butler. The senior tossed 5.2 innings and struck out seven before being replaced by Kyle Allen. The final arm used on Friday was Will Schierholz who came in for one strikeout in the ninth.
Butler and Georgetown will take the field again tomorrow in game two of the series. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
