IU RELEASE

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana head women's basketball coach Curt Millerannounced the addition of Liz Stratman to the Hoosier roster on Monday. Stratman will transfer to Indiana from Butler, where she was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year for the 2013-14 season.

"We are so excited about the addition of Liz Stratman to our program," Miller said. "Liz is coming off an outstanding and productive year at Butler. She finished in the Top 15 in six separate statistical categories in the BIG EAST. Liz has the versatility to play both post positions for our team. She is excellent in transition and her mobility will make her tough to guard in the ball screen offense. Liz is also a fantastic post defender as she led the BIG EAST in block shots. She will help us protect the paint against an outstanding group of post players in the Big Ten. Finally, our commitment continues to recruit the state of Indiana aggressively and Liz is our latest addition to the Hoosier Nation."

Stratman will begin classes at Indiana University this summer. She will have to sit out the 2014-15 season due to NCAA transfer rules and will be eligible to play for the Hoosiers for her senior season in 2015-16.

The 6-2 Stratman was a force for Butler in 2013-14 as she swatted a BIG EAST-leading 79 blocks to average 2.7 blocks per game en route to earning the top conference defensive honor. She also averaged 13.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while shooting 52.0 percent from the field, the third highest shooting percentage in the BIG EAST. Statman played in 29 games, making 28 starts.

The New Palestine, Ind., native scored in double figures 19 times and had five games of 20 or more points last season for the Bulldogs. She led the team with eight games of 10 or more rebounds and rejected two or more shots in 19 contests. Stratman finished the year with six double-doubles. One of those double-double performances came in a win over Seton Hall on March 1 when she scored a career-high 28 points and added 12 boards.

In 2012-13 as a sophomore at Butler, Stratman averaged 10.8 points and 5.9 rebounds per game while playing in 22 games after sitting out the fall semester due to transferring. She began her collegiate career at Xavier and appeared in 12 games before moving on to Butler at the conclusion of the 2011 fall semester.

Stratman played high school basketball at Heritage Christian in Indianapolis, Ind. She helped lead Heritage Christian to two 2A state championships in 2008 and 2009. Stratman was named 2011 Female Athlete of the Year and City Player of the Year by the Indianapolis Star as she averaged 16.8 points and 9.7 rebounds per game as a senior.
