FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW baseball squad dropped a twin bill to Summit League rival North Dakota State 11-10 and 12-0.

Steve Lowden led the Mastodons on the day, going 4-for-8 with four RBI. Kevin Wirth collected three hits on the afternoon and scored twice. Four other Mastodon players had a pair of hits between the two games. Brandon Soat drove in a pair of runs while Carter DeBoe and Kristian Gayday each scored twice.

For the second straight day, 'Dons and Bison combined to score 21 runs in the opener. NDSU scored first, plating a pair of runs in the top of the first. IPFW answered in the bottom of the inning on a two-run single by Lowden.

The Bison added a run in the second and two more in the third to break the tie game.

In the third, DeBoe scored on an NDSU error and Lowden followed with a single that brought Kevin Wirth around to score.

With IPFW down by one, the Bison scored a run in the fourth and added two runs in the fifth to extend their lead to 8-4.

The 'Dons fought back to tie the game in the fifth, scoring four runs, as seven straight Mastodon batters reached base to start the inning. Lowden got the scoring going for IPFW with an RBI single. Kendall Whitman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home a run and Evan VanSumeren followed with a bases loaded single. Soat capped off the inning with an RBI groundout to tie the game.

NDSU scored three runs in the sixth, all of which were unearned.

IPFW did its best to make a comeback in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases. Soat reached on an infield single that brought in Whitman. DeBoe followed with a sacrifice fly to left, allowing VanSumeren to score. After a walk to Gayday loaded the bases again, the final two Mastodon batters were retired, ending the rally.

Zach Mishler took the game one loss, allowing three unearned runs in two innings of relief.

Game two saw the Mastodons muster five hits, two of which came off the bat Gayday.

IPFW's best chance for a run came in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Malcolm White singled and then with two outs Gayday added a single to put runners on first and second, but Shane Trevino popped out to the shortstop to end the inning.

Starting Mastodon pitcher Dane Davis suffered his fourth loss of the season, as IPFW dropped to 17-28 on the season and 9-10 in Summit League play.

The two teams will close out their series on Sunday, May 4 with first pitch set for noon.
