ISU RELEASE

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. –  Indiana State went into the weekend ready to get back to Missouri Valley Conference action and the Sycamores were able to have a successful return on  Bob Warn Field at Sycamore Stadium. Indiana State defeated Dallas Baptist 3-2 Sunday to win the weekend series two games to one.

“It just shows you how resilient this team is,” Mitch Hannahs, Indiana State baseball coach, said. “To be able to come back and win after a tough loss has been the method of operation for this team. We had some great at bats today as we did all weekend to go along with some good pitching. These kids will have a well-deserved break after all the travelling we have done this season.”

Indiana State improved to 29-13 overall and 9-6 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Sycamores will have 10 days off before resuming action on May 7 when they travel to Ball State for a mid-week non-conference game. They return home on May 9 to begin their final home Valley series of the season as Missouri State comes to town.

Dallas Baptist fell to 28-15 on the season and 7-5 in the conference with the loss.

Kurt Kudrecki had one of his best outings of the season as he went 6.1 innings to improve to 5-3 on the season. The senior allowed one run on two hits while striking out one and walking four. Josh Dove took over in the seventh and finished the game for his second save of the season and fourth of his career. The senior allowed a run on two hits while striking out two and walking one in 2.2 innings of work.

Dallas Baptist opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning by scoring a run on two singles and a walk.

The Sycamores came back in the bottom of the second with two runs on two hits and a Patriot error. Landon Curry led off the inning with his second straight single of the game and was safe at second on a Dallas Baptist error as Cody Zimmerman reached on the fielder’s choice.  Both moved up a base on a wild pitch and both scored when Jacob Hayes singled up the middle.

Indiana State added another run in the bottom of the sixth on just one hit. Connor McClain walked with one out and advanced to second when Derek Hannahs grounded out to first. McClain came around to score when Curry connected for his third hit of the game. Curry stole his 18th base of the season and Zimmerman walked but both were left stranded.

Dallas Baptist got one back in the top of the eighth on a Mike Wesolowski solo home run over the left field fence. It could have been a bigger inning for the Patriots but McClain made a game changing catch at the fence to stop the rally and end the Dallas Baptist threat.

The Sycamores scored three runs on five hits with Landon Curry connecting for three of those hits, all singles. Jacob Hayes and Connor McClain also had a single each.
