A 2013-14 season that saw marked improvement from the Brown and Gold came to a close Saturday evening after a 4-0 loss to Green Bay at the University of Michigan Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor.

While the defeat ended Valpo's season, Jeffrey Schorsch (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) and Charlie Emhardt (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) extended their winning streak to 20 matches with an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles. The duo ended the season 21-1 in doubles play.

Green Bay's Michael Tenzer and Howard Scott brought the doubles play to a tie with an 8-3 win over Dave Bacalla (Skokie, Ill./Niles North)/Daniel Oakes (Elburn, Ill./Saint Charles North) at No. 1.

The Phoenix clinched the doubles point at No. 3 thanks to Rowan Isaaks and Leo Gomez Islinger's 8-5 defeat of Eric Honert (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley)/Kyle Dunn (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac).

Green Bay opened its lead to 2-0 after Michael Savaglio (Kenosha, Wis./Mary D. Bradford) fell 6-2, 6-2 to Joey Leto at No. 4 singles.

Tenzer, the Horizon League's Player of the Year, handed Schorsch a 6-3, 6-2 loss at No. 1.

At No. 3, Honert dropped his match 6-4, 6-3 to Scott as the Phoenix clinched the match to advance to the Horizon League Championship where they'll face Cleveland State on Sunday afternoon.

For Valpo (19-9), 2013-14 was a year that saw numerous records fall including the single season singles victories mark, single season doubles victories record, and the career victories total.

Schorsch (27), Bacalla (25), Emhardt (24), and Dunn (22) now comprise the top four for singles victories in a season in Crusader history.

Emhardt (28) and Schorsch (25) now possess the No. 1 and No. 2 spots for doubles wins in a season, respectively.

Honert leaves the Brown and Gold with 69 career singles wins, a new Valparaiso record.
