BUTLER BASEBALL RELEASE

INDIANAPOLIS – Butler will host Indiana State at Victory Field on Wednesday, April 23. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. with gates opening to the public at 2 p.m. All general admission tickets will be sold on the day of the game for just $5.

A Look at Butler (16-22)
Butler is now 16-22 overall after taking two of three from Xavier in BIG EAST action last weekend. Junior Eric Stout will lead the charge for BU as he takes the mound for the 'Dogs during the midweek clash against in-state foe Indiana State. Stout is 3-6 on the year with an 8.47 ERA. He leads the team in strikeouts with 41 and also serves as the team leader in innings pitched with 45.2.

Austin Miller, Chris Maranto and Marcos Calderon highlight the high-powered Butler lineup at the top of the order. Each player holds a batting average over .300 and has at least one home run on the season.

Additional power hitters near the middle of the lineup include Michael Fries, Quincy Quintero and Will Amador. Fries is batting .273 on the season with four doubles, a triple and one home run. Quintero enters Wednesday as the team leader in doubles with nine and Amador is third on that list with seven.

Scouting Indiana State (25-12)
The Sycamores are preparing for a busy week as the team faces Purdue on Tuesday before playing Butler at Victory Field on Wednesday. Missouri Valley action will continue this weekend with Indiana State hosting a three-game series vs. Dallas Baptist.

Indiana State has played well throughout the 2014 season by recording signature wins over teams such as Connecticut, Ohio State, Indiana and Wichita State.  Top performers for the Sycamores include Mike Fitzgerald, Cody Zimmerman and Jacob Hayes.

Fitzgerald is a high-impact player that enters the week with a .350 batting average that includes eight doubles, three home runs and 20 RBIs. He shares the team home run lead with Hayes, who holds a .261 BA with eight doubles and a team-high four triples. Hayes and teammate Landon Curry are two of the fastest players in the ISU lineup. Curry leads the club with 14 stolen bases and Hayes is close behind with 11.

The midweek starter for Indiana State has not been named at this time. With a weekend rotation of David Stagg, Brad Lombard and Kurt Kudrecki, the Sycamores could choose between Ryan Keaffaber and Trent Lunsford for Wednesday. Keaffaber has a 2-1 record in two starts this season. He holds a 2.47 ERA and is fourth on the team with 27 strikeouts. Lunsford seems to receive a majority of the midweek starts, having made five starts on the mound for ISU this season with an overall record of 1-2. He holds a 1.80 ERA and has 18 strikeouts in 30 innings pitched.
