TERRE HAUTE, Ind.—The Sycamores (24-22, 6-13 MVC) rallied late on Saturday but fell just short as they fell 6-3 in the series finale to the Braves of Bradley (21-25, 12-8 MVC) at Price Field.
Just as they did on Friday, Bradley jumped out to an early lead as they scored three runs in the top of the second and two more in the top of the third to take a 5-0 lead over the Sycamores after 2.5 innings of play.
The Sycamores answered in the bottom of the third when freshman Kassie Brown led off the inning with a walk before junior Aubre Carpenter hit a bunt single to put runners at first and second. After a strikeout, freshman Rylee Holland hit a bunt single to load the bases with one out. Freshman Erika Crissman then hit into an RBI fielders choice to score Brown and Carpenter scored on a throwing error by the Bradley second baseman to cut the Braves lead to 5-2.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Sycamores struck again as senior Morgan Allee singled to right field and advanced all the way to third on a fielding error. After a groundout, Crissman singled up the middle to score Allee and cut the Braves lead to 5-3.
Bradley had an answer, however, in the top of the sixth, scoring one run off two hits to retake a 6-3 lead.
In the bottom of the 7th, the Sycamores had chances as they loaded the bases with two outs before a fly ball to the warning track in center field ended the game with the Sycamores falling 6-3.
Crissman was 2-4 with two RBI's while junior Ashley Dickerson was 2-3 at the plate for the Sycamores.
Indiana State will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Chicago, Ill. to play a single game against the Ramblers of Loyola in the rubber match of the three-game series.
