BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 69 Indiana men’s tennis team won five first sets against Purdue on Wednesday and let the match slip away. The Hoosiers found themselves in the same situation on Sunday and came through in a big way with a 4-2 victory over No. 16 Penn State.

After dropping the doubles point to the Nittany Lions, the Hoosiers (14-14) came out strong in singles play. Sophomore Chris Essick quickly got a point for IU with a 6-2, 6-2 victory and after a Penn State (19-3) win at No. 5 singles, Sam Monette delivered an emotional 6-4, 7-5 victory at No. 2 singles to give Indiana momentum.

It was senior Dimitrije Tasic on senior day, that gave the Hoosiers a commanding 3-1 lead with a 6-2, 7-5 win that set up sophomore Daniel Bednarczyk to clinch the match for the Hoosiers in a three set 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 victory.

In the Hoosiers evening match they won the doubles points and took three of the first four singles matches for a 5-2 win over DePauw.

The Hoosiers travel to Michigan and Michigan State next weekend before starting play in the Big Ten Tournament on April 24 in East Lansing, Mich.
