EVANSVILLE, Ind. – With two spring wins under their belt, the University of Evansville men's golf team looks to bring home a third trophy this weekend as the squad is set to participate in the Hoosier Invitational.
Set for Saturday and Sunday, the event will be held at the IU Golf Course in Bloomington, Ind. Par for each round is 71 and the course is 6,813 yards. Thirty-six holes highlight Saturday's action with one trip around the course set for Sunday. A shotgun start will commence the action on both days.
Participating teams include: Akron, Butler, Evansville, Illinois State, Indiana, IPFW, IUPUI, Michigan, Oakland, Ohio, Toledo, Western Illinois, Xavier and Youngstown State.
Last weekend, the Purple Aces took the team win at the Bradley Invitational at Pekin Country Club. All six participating players came home in the top 14, led by senior Parker Hensley. The San Antonio, Texas native carded a 73 in the final round on his way to a tie for seventh place. He finished the 2-round event with a 144.
Two strokes behind him in a tie for 10th place was the duo of Alex Turner and Quinn Vilneff. Through three spring events, Vilneff has been UE's top golfer, posting a 73.00 stroke average. Turner is just behind him with a 73.29 in the spring, but holds the overall season lead with a 72.75.
Three Aces tied for 14th place as Rick Voyvodic, Will Knights and Brett Wolvert each posted scores of 148. Voyvodic led the Aces on Sunday with a team-low 70. Wolvert played as an individual, but did an admirable job against stiff competition.
Evansville won the tournament by five strokes over Loyola. The Aces finished with a 579 while the Ramblers took second with a 584. Bradley and Detroit tied for third with a 586.
