MEN'S GOLF TO PLAY NYX HOOSIER INVITATIONAL AS FINAL POSTSEASON TUNE-UP

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The IUPUI men's golf team will play its final regular season tune-up when the Jaguars compete in the 54-hole NYX Hoosier Invitational at the IU Golf Course this weekend. The two-day tournament will consist of 36 holes on Saturday (Apr. 12) prior to Sunday's (Apr. 13) final round at the par-71, 6,813-yard course.
The tournament will serve as the final precursor to next week's Summit League Championships to be played in Keller, Texas.
The 14-team Hoosier Invite field will consist of Akron, Butler, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Illinois State, Michigan, Oakland, Ohio, Toledo, Western Illinois, Xavier, Youngstown State and host Indiana. The Hoosiers won last year's event at 2-under 850 while IU's Andrew Fogg captured medalist honors at 5-under 208.
Head Coach John Andrews will utilize the lineup of senior Rob van de Vin, juniors Derek Rohlfing, Santiago Ruiz and Jose Pablo Segurola and sophomore Rylan Porter this weekend.
Segurola has been the team's top player throughout the season, ranking fifth in The Summit League with a 74.07 scoring average. He opened the spring with back-to-back top-two finishes, including winning the Frito Lay Taco Bell Intercollegiate by shooting a 1-over 145 (71-74) in mid-February. He later took second at the Benbow Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla., and most recently finished tied for 15th at the Beu/Mussatto Invitational.
Ruiz, who missed the Beu/Mussatto Invite due to illness, comes in ranked 12th in the league with a 75.25 stroke average. He also has an individual title under his belt this season, having won the John Dallio Memorial during the fall season. van de Vin is slowly rounding into form and was the team's top player at the Beu/Mussatto event, finishing at 8-over 224. The team's lone senior in the lineup has two top-10 finishes this season.
Porter has a 76.93 stroke average this season, including shooting 232 (77-77-78) at the Beu/Mussatto Invite. The Huntington University-transfer had a pair of top-10 finishes during the fall and is playing his fourth tournament of the spring. Rohlfing checks in with a 79.38 stroke average and is making his sixth apperance of the season. The Effingham, Ill.-native earned a top-five finish during the Butler Fall Invitational with a 1-over 141 (71-70).
The Jaguars finished 18th at the NYX Hoosier Invite last season, shooting a 54-hole 922 (308-306-308). Cole Adams led IUPUI a year ago at 230 while Ruiz shot 231. Both van de Vin and Austin Winings carded 234 and Matt Bruce shot 238.
