CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The IUPUI women's track team will be in action on Saturday (Apr. 12) night under the lights as the Jaguars will compete in the Illinois Twilight at the University of Illinois Track Stadium. Running events are expected to start at 6:00 p.m. Eastern. The Jaguars are expected to run against foes from Bradley, Butler, Eastern Illinois, Illinois, Indiana State, Iowa and Loyola, among others.
A pair of Jaguars will look to lower their own school records on Saturday, beginning with fifth-year senior Rachel Zajac in the 1,500m race. Zajac holds the school record at 4:42.25 and nearly broke her own mark at last weekend's Miami Invitational. She'll be joined in her heat by sophomore Julie Riggins while teammates Mandy Campbell, Jennifer Emery, Amy Mattingly and Sarah Carlisle will be in the third heat. Carlisle ran 5:03.89 last weekend in Oxford.
Sophomore Katie Williams is coming off a personal best time of 2:24.14 in the 800m and holds the third-fastest time in school history. The Lafayette, Ind.-native is slated for the third heat of the 800, slated to start at approximately 8:15 p.m..
The 3,000m race boasts a crowded field of 33 runners on the track, highlighted by IUPUI freshman Savannah Turner. Turner ran a school record time of 10:21.45 in her outdoor debut at the 49er Classic. Others expected to run the 3K are Leah Brooks, Mariana Lopez-Owens, Anne Mogavero and Ashley Mosley. Mogavero is coming off a personal best time in the 5K while Mosley ran 11:24.26 in the 3K earlier this season.
The night's events will close with the 5,000m race at approximately 10:25 Eastern. Both Valeria Guzman and Lexi Hunt are entered as Hunt comes off a record breaking performance in the 3K steeplechase at Miami.
