Travis Named Big Ten Player of the Week

CHICAGO - The Big Ten Conference announced its weekly honors on Tuesday and Indiana's first baseman Sam Traviswas named the Player of the Week. He hit .462 with two home runs, four RBI, four runs scored and a 1.500 OPS as the Hoosiers swept Iowa on the road.
It is the fifth career Big Ten Player of the Week for Travis and his first this season. He is the fourth different offensive player for IU to be named Player of the Week this year, joining Kyle Schwarber, Casey Rodrigue and Dustin DeMuth. This is also the fourth straight week the Hoosiers have had someone named either player or pitcher of the week by the conference.
Overall, the conference has handed out a total of 19 Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week honors and the Hoosiers have collected seven of those. The next closest team total is three by Iowa and Nebraska.
Travis started the weekend with a bang, hitting a pair of home runs in the Hoosiers 6-3 win the series opener against the Hawkeyes. It was is first career multi-home run game. In the middle game of the series, he went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and the Hoosiers cruised to a 14-3 victory. And then in the series finale, he posted a pair of hits - including the game-tying RBI single in the eighth inning - that helped Indiana complete the sweep.
The Hoosiers will host Indiana State at Bart Kaufman Field on Wednesday, with first pitch slated for 6:05 p.m. The game is a "Red Out" in conjuction with the IU Office of First Year Experience, where fans are encouraged to wear as much red as they can to the game. Gates open at 3:35 p.m. for fans with a ticket or students with a valid student ID to enter and watch the teams take batting practice.
