MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The IPFW Mastodons out-hit the Central Michigan Chippewas 14-to-8 on the day; however, the Chippewas were able to pull out a pair of wins over the Mastodons, 1-0 in the opener, and 6-4 in the afternoon finale.

The losses drop IPFW to 23-10 on the season, while Central Michigan improves to 20-10.

Hillary Kartman and Audrey Mintari each went 3-for-6 on the day, while Larissa Franklin was 3-for-7. Kartman scored twice, as Mintari drove in three.

The opener saw the hosts strike first in the bottom of the first inning when Chelsea DeLamielleure reached when she was hit by a pitch, before being pushed around on a fielding error, giving the hosts a narrow 1-0 lead.

The Chippewas opened the third inning with a double by DeLamielleure - the only hit of the game for the hosts.

IPFW was not able to threaten in the game until the top of the seventh inning when the Mastodons, trailing 1-0, got three consecutive singles to load the bases with no outs in the inning. After a brief mound visit, CMU starting pitcher Rachael Knapp forced a pop-up and back-to-back strikeouts to end the threat, and secure the shutout win.

Miranda Kramer gave up just the one hit in the loss, striking out 12 while allowing the unearned run. She walked one and hit two batters, as the Chippewas were just 1-for-22 at the plate in the game.

Franklin was 2-for-3, while Dani Pugh, Ashleigh Bousquet, and Hillary Kartman each picked up a hit.

In the afternoon finale, Central Michigan got a pair of doubles in the bottom of the first inning to push to a 1-0 lead, before the Mastodons answered back when Mintari singled home Kartman, who doubled two batters earlier.

Immediately after the Mastodons knotted the score, the Chippewas got a three-run home run from DeLamielleure, putting the hosts ahead 4-1.

A Mintari double in the top of the fourth scored Beka Ferguson cut the gap in half at 4-2; however, the hosts scored two more in the bottom of the fifth on a home run and a triple.

Mintari doubled home Kartman in the top of the sixth to once again cut the deficit in half at 6-3, before Prestlee Cooper singled home pinch-runner Taylor Gordy Prescott, putting the margin at 6-4.

In the top of the seventh, IPFW had runners on first and second with one out before Ashleigh Bousquet hit a hard liner where shortstop Carolann Sexauer was able to dive and make the catch, before tagging out Kayti Hanson as she was racing back towards second base to end the game.

Mintari was a perfect 3-for-3 in the game with three RBIs, while Kartman was 2-for-3 and scored twice.

Megan Flenniken struck out seven in 4.2 innings of work, giving up seven hits and three earned runs, while walking three. Kaitlyn Biere pitched the final inning and a third without giving up a hit, walking one, and striking out one.

The Mastodons return to action over the weekend when the team will face off in Macomb, Ill., against the Western Illinois Leathernecks in the Mastodons' third Summit League series of the season.
