Sycamores Shut Out Governors 3-0 In Game Shortened By Weather

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State Sycamores posted another mid-week victory Wednesday night as four pitchers combined to throw a three hit shutout and a 3-0 victory over the Austin Peay State University Governors. The game was called in the top of the seventh after nearly an hour’s delay due to lightning in the area.
Indiana State (18-7) will continue their home stand this weekend when they host the Wichita State Shockers in a Missouri Valley Conference series starting on Friday.
Nick Kolarik (3-0) was the winning pitcher for the Sycamores as he went 1.2 innings in relief of Indiana State starter Trent Lunsford who went 3.0 innings. A.J. McElderry worked 1.1 innings with Josh Dove taking over in the seventh and earing his first save of the season. The Sycamore staff shut out the Governors on three hits while striking out five and walking three.
Derek Hannahs was 3-for-3 with a double and two singles to pace the Sycamores at the plate marking his eighth multiple hit game of the season and the third with three hits. Jeff Zahn also had a double while Landon Curry, Brian Romero, and Tyler Wampler had a single each.
The Sycamores jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning on back-to-back two-out doubles from Derek Hannahs and Jeff Zahn. Indiana State upped their advantage to 2-0 in the third, Zimmerman took the first pitch of the inning in the middle of his back and later scored when Brian Romero singled to center.
Tyler Wampler laid down a bunt single to lead off the Sycamore sixth, went to third when Hannahs singled to right, and scored as Zahn hit a sacrifice fly to center field.
