Women's Tennis Suffers 5-2 Loss To Miami Saturday

March 30, 2014

MUNCIE, Ind. - In Mid-American Conference action Saturday, the Ball State women's tennis team suffered a 5-2 setback to Miami at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.  With the loss the Cardinals fall to 11-7 on the season and even their league record to 1-1 while the RedHawks improve to 9-4 in dual action and 2-0 in MAC play.

"Miami is a group of smart and talented players," said Ball State head women's tennis coach Max Norris.  "I think we saw the importance today of establishing and maintaining passion, energy, and consistency in rallies. We are excited to hit the road and take another step forward."

At No. 1 doubles Courntey Earnest alongside teammate Bethany Moore would lose to Miami's twosome of Christine Guerrazzi and Alix Thurman, 8-4.  Toni Ormond and Kristel Sanders dropped an 8-1 decision to Nimisha Mohan and Andreea Badileanu on court two.  Despite the No. 3 doubles tandem of Courtney Wild and Ayaka Terashi leading their match 5-4, it went unfinished due to the RedHawks already claiming the doubles point.

In singles action, Earnest tied the match 1-1 after taking down Mohan in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 1 position.  Terashi and Moore would then lose their respective matches in straight sets on court five and four to give the RedHawks a 3-1 advantage over the Cardinals.  At No. 3 singles, Sanders put up a good fight over Raymond after taking the first set, 6-2.  Sanders would then drop the next two sets to Raymond, 6-3, 6-2 to lose the match.  Wild made it 4-2 with her three set victory on court two defeating Badileanu, 6-0, in the third set.  Rang closed out competition with a loss at No. 6 singles giving Miami the 5-2 win over the Cardinals.

The Ball State women's tennis team begins a four-match Mid-American Conference road-swing which starts Friday, April 4 at Akron with the match starting at 1 p.m.
