INDIANA BASEBALL RELEASE

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Less than 24 hours after suffering a walk-off defeat, #16 Indiana Baseball (9-7) bounced back with a gritty extra inning victory at Long Beach State (9-8) to force a Sunday rubber match. Senior third baseman Dustin DeMuthlifted a game-winning sacrifice fly in the 11th inning to thrust IU into a 2-1 winner.

Runs were hard to come by in regulation as each team's lone tally was aided by a defensive blunder and unearned. It was a pair LBSU errors in the fourth escorting home the Hoosier run. Indiana returned the favor in the sixth as an errant toss from the outfield opened the door for a Dirtbag run.

If not for Luke Harrison, IU likely never has a chance earn the victory. The junior relief pitcher came to the rescue just two outs into the contest. Harrison emerged from the bullpen and delivered over six innings of relief, allowing just four hits, no walks and striking out four while being victimized by the one unearned score.

A half dozen Hoosier hurlers took the mound, including Jake Kelzer's two scoreless frames. Scott Effrosspicked up the win, recording the final four outs of the game.

After a pair of free passes to start of the top of the 11th, Chris Sujkalaid down a bunt single to load the bases. DeMuth then fell behind 0-2 before battling back to elevate the go-ahead sac fly.

Long Beach State's Ino Patron ripped a double to lead off the home half of the 11th. He scooted over to third later in the frame, but Effross ultimately retired the next three batters to end the ballgame.
