EVANSVILLE PRESS RELEASE

FULL MVC RELEASE

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – University of Evansville freshman Sara Dickey was named the Missouri Valley Conference Co-Freshman of the Year Thursday night in a ceremony at The Family Arena in St. Charles, Mo.  Dickey becomes just the second Purple Aces' player to earn MVC Freshman of the Year honors, joining Shinko Ono, who won the award in 1999.

Dickey enters Friday afternoon's game with Drake ranked second in the league in scoring (18.0 ppg) and her 523 points this season rank second, behind only Missouri State's Jackie Stiles, on the MVC's all-time freshman single-season scoring list.  In addition, the Montezuma, Ind., currently ranks fourth on UE's single-season scoring list and has scored in double figures in all but one game this season, which includes 10 contests in which she has scored 20 or more points.

Throughout the season, the freshman guard earned MVC Newcomer of the Week accolades five times and her 53 made three-pointers are tied for the second most in the conference this season.

Dickey shared MVC Freshman of the Year honors with Drake's Lizzy Wendell, who ranks fifth in the league in scoring (16.1 ppg) and ranks fifth all-time in the MVC's freshman single-season scoring list.

Friday's matchup between the Aces and the Bulldogs, scheduled to tip at 2:37 p.m., will not only feature the MVC's Co-Freshman of the Year, but will also include the 2014 Jackie Stiles MVC Player of the Year award winner in DU's Kyndal Clark.
