A day after receiving an offer from Purdue, Brebeuf Jesuit point guard P.J. Thompson told coach Matt Painter he was ready to be Boilermaker.
Thompson, a 5-11 senior, appealed to Painter because of his leadership and toughness. After Sunday’s home loss to Northwestern, the Purdue coach said he needed to recruit a “more unselfish and tougher” player.
“He told me some things needed to change and those were a couple of things he mentioned,” said Thompson, who averaged 24.1 points and 2.8 assists as a senior. “They feel like my leadership and decision-making can definitely help right away.”
