Gayday Homers But Mastodons Fall To Butler

INDIANAPOLIS - In its first game back in the Hoosier state, the IPFW baseball team fell to Butler 9-3 in the first game of a three-game weekend series.
IPFW got things off with a bang with two outs in the top of the second as Kristian Gayday connected on his third home run of the season, a solo shot to right field. Gayday, who led the Mastodons at the plate, finished the day 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Butler tied the game in the bottom half of the second before taking the lead in the third on a three-run home run.
In the fifth, the 'Dons added a run as Kevin Wirth singled to lead off the inning. Jon Timmermen and Malcolm White walked to load the bases before Carter DeBoe drew a four-pitch walk with two outs.
The final run for IPFW came in the sixth on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Tyler Shepherd with the bases loaded.
The Bulldogs added three runs in the fourth and two in the seventh on a home run to finish off the scoring.
On the mound, Dane Davis took the loss for the Mastodons. In three innings of work, Davis allowed four earned runs on five hits and struck out two Butler batters.
The two teams face off again tomorrow, March 8, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
