JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Dolphins of Jacksonville University slipped by the Hoosiers Friday night in the series opener, taking advantage of an unearned run to score a 4-3 victory. #17 Indiana (4-5) received another quality start from Joey DeNato(7 IP, 3 ER), his fourth in as many appearances this season, but were unable to muster enough offense to get the win.

It marks the third straight triumph for JU (4-7), the previous two coming via shutouts. Indiana put to rest any notion of a third consecutive blanking by lighting the scoreboard right away in the top of the first. Second baseman Casey Rodrigue reached on a fielder's choice, moved to second on Sam Travis' first of three singles, stole third and then came home on Ricky Alfonso'sRBI-chopper to the right side.

Jacksonville's Connor Marabell matched the tally in the home half, stroking a solo shot to right. A costly defensive error ushered in an unearned run in the next frame to give JU its first lead of the game.

Zeros were posted on the board through the next two innings before Kyle Schwarberelevated a cloud-scraping homer down the right field line to pull IU back even at 2-2 in the top of the fifth. Jacksonville countered in the home half once again though, this time with a pair of tallies.

Schwarber ignited more offense in the seventh, connecting on a 2-out single. Rodrigue and Travis made it back-to-back-to-back base hits, bringing Schwarber in for his second run of the night. The Dolphins made a pitching change and the new JU hurler rung up a backwards K to end the threat with a 4-3 edge intact.

The Hoosiers threatened again in the eighth as Austin Cangelosireached third base after a lead-off single, sac bunt and groundball. A pop fly followed and an opportunity squandered.

Game two of the weekend series is scheduled for a 2 pm start.
