JAGS SOFTBALL REPORT

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2  I UWGB Box Score (html - pdf) I Indiana State Box Score (html - pdf)

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Sophomore Cassie Vodde spun her first career complete game shutout and Sarah Lawrence went 3-for-3 at the dish as IUPUI opened play at the Holiday Inn Hilltopper Classic with a 3-0 win over Green Bay. In game two on Friday (Feb. 28), IUPUI fell into a 3-0 hole against in-state rival Indiana State before ultimately falling, 3-2.

IUPUI 3, Green Bay 0
IUPUI got Vodde all the offense she would need in the second inning, using an aggressive running game to push a run across. Ali Mosier led off with a single, stole second and moved to third on a throwing error. Maggie Good followed by drawing a walk and the duo pulled off a first-and-third double steal to draw first blood.

In the third inning, Alyssa Neff led off with a solid single to left and swiped second. Morgan Schlobohm advanced the runner to third with a ground out and Lawrence plated the game's second run with her team-high sixth double of the season.

Sloppy Green Bay (1-1) defense helped the Jaguars score again in the fourth, beginning with Angela Bartucci's one-out double just inside the leftfield line. After moving to third on a ground out, Bartucci scored on Eryn Dillon's fielder's choice back to the mound, making it 3-0.

Vodde (3-2) was brilliant in the circle, scattering five singles and fanning five batters in the shutout. Offensively, IUPUI had seven hits and stole five bases in the win.

Indiana State 3, IUPUI 2
In game two, Indiana State (7-3) surged out to a 3-0 lead in the first two innings, thanks largely to some sloppy IUPUI (6-7) defense. In the opening inning, ISU pushed across a pair of unearned runs against senior starter Jocelyn Oppenhuis, the second scoring on a two-out infield hit. In the second frame, the Sycamores added insurance when Erika Crissman plated a run with an RBI groundout after Megan Stone had reached on one of four IUPUI errors.

After stranding runners in scoring position in each of the first four innings, the IUPUI offense didn't scratch until Mosier led off the sixth inning with a solo homerun to straightaway centerfield.

In the seventh, the Jaguars mounted a rally but came up a run shy of tying the score. Dillon led off with an infield single and moved to second on Neff's sacrifice bunt. Schlobohm moved Dillon to third with a ground out and she later scored on a wild pitch. However, ISU starter Yvette Alvarez, who earned a save in an earlier win over Wright State, induced a Lawrence ground out to second to end the game.

Alvarez (4-2) tossed a complete game, striking out three and walking one in the victory. Oppenhuis (2-4) was the tough luck loser, allowing four hits and three unearned runs in six innings work. She struck out three and walked none in her third complete game of the season.

Patterson went 2-for-3 with a triple from the clean-up spot in the Jaguars batting order.

IUPUI is scheduled to return to action on Saturday (Mar. 1) when it takes on Wright State (11:30 a.m.) and Northern Iowa (2:00 p.m.) at Buchanon Park in Bowling Green, Ky..
