BALL STATE: Football Announces Non-Conference Schedule

Ball State has announced its non-conference football schedule for the 2014 season
and it will feature a home game versus in-state opponent Indiana State Sat., Sept.
13, at Scheumann Stadium.
The game with the Sycamores will renew a longtime rivalry in a series that dates
back to 1924 and has seen the two teams play each other 62 times. Ball State owns a
38-23-1 all-time advantage in the series, which last saw the teams face off in 2003.
Ball State vs. Indiana State game is played each time for the Victory Bell, which
was inaugurated in 1940 when the Blue Key chapters at both schools arranged to
donate a bell to the winners of the game.
"We worked very hard over the last several months to make some changes to this
year's non-conference schedule in order to feature six home games at Scheumann
Stadium," Ball State head coach Pete Lembo says. "Our students, faculty, alumni and
local fans will get an opportunity to see the 2014 team at home twice early in the
season. We are also excited about the challenging road trips to Iowa and Army."
In addition to facing Indiana State, the Cardinals will open the season vs. Colgate
Aug. 30, play at Iowa Sept. 6 and travel to Army Oct. 4. The Colgate game was
originally scheduled for Oct. 25, but was moved to accommodate some additional
Ball State and Colgate have never met in football, while the Cardinals and Iowa have
played twice and Army and Ball State have faced each other four times. The Hawkeyes
own a 2-0 mark over the Cardinals and the Army vs. Ball State series is tied at 2-2.
The Mid-American Conference portion of Ball State's schedule is expected to be
released in the near future. The Cardinals will face Akron, Eastern Michigan,
Northern Illinois and Western Michigan in home games and play at Bowling Green,
Central Michigan, Massachusetts and Toledo.
