WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue Boilermakers head to the 2014 Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend. The meet is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
The women look to improve on their ninth place finish from last year, while the men look to move up on their 10th place finish. The women return six scorers from a year ago, including Dani Bunch who finished runner-up in the shot put and weight throw. The men's team returns seven scorers from a year ago, including throwers Coy Blair and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi who each had a bronze medal finish in a throwing event.
On the women's side, among other things, Bunch will vie for Purdue first women's indoor shot put title. The Boilermakers have scored in the event seven-straight years, but have never won the crown. Bunch leads the conference this season and also has the top weight throw mark in the Big Ten.
On the men's side, the Boilermakers will look for their first individual Big Ten Champion since 2010. They return three medalists with Blair in the shot put, Enekwechi in the weight throw and Brandon Winters in the 60m hurdles. All three won the bronze medal in their event.
The Championships are set to being on Friday at 10 a.m. ET and the first day of action will conclude at 7 p.m. The action will resume on Saturday at 10 a.m. and concludes at 4:50 p.m. with the awards ceremony.
The Boilermakers have had a season with unprecedented success. Student-athletes on the current roster account for eight indoor school records in events including the women's 200m, women's 800m, women's shot put, women's weight throw, women's triple jump, men's 5,000m, men's weight throw and men's mile.
