BUTLER SPORTS RELEASE

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. -- Senior Leah Bry tossed her first complete game shutout of the 2014 campaign and helped Butler to a split of two games at the Frost Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Saturday (Feb. 22).  The Bulldogs won the opener against Radford, 2-0, before dropping a 3-1 decision to Ohio.

The victory over Radford was Butler's first at the tournament, which began on Friday (Feb. 21), and it snapped the Bulldogs' seven-game losing skid.  Butler (3-9) will conclude play at the Frost Classic on Sunday (Feb. 23) with a single game against Austin Peay at 11 a.m.

Butler 2, Radford 0
Bry shook off a rough first inning and then cruised through the final six frames to record her second win of the season.  She allowed just three hits and two walks in the game and retired the Highlanders in order in four of the final six innings.  The senior righthander recorded a season-high ten strikeouts in the win.

Butler took the lead in the bottom of the third inning on a two-out double by Brandyce Sallee and a run-scoring single by Chelsea Norwood.  The Bulldogs added a second run one inning later on a bases-loaded single by Sarah Gronowski.

Radford (2-2) loaded the bases with two outs in the first inning, but the Bulldogs ended the threat when a pick-off throw from catcher Riley Carter led to a run-down and the lead runner was nailed at the plate.

Six different Butler players hit safely in the game.

Ohio 3, Butler 1
Pitcher Savannah Jo Dorsey limited Butler to one run on four hits and helped Ohio record its third consecutive victory.  The sophomore right-hander struck out 10 Bulldogs, while recording her eighth win in nine decisions this season.

The Bobcats (11-1) jumped in front in the second inning on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Dorsey, and then added two more runs on two hits in the fourth frame.

Butler scored it lone run off Dorsey on a leadoff single by Norwood, a ground out by Gronowski and a run-scoring double by Alie Tarrant.

Kristin Gutierrez (1-4) started in the circle for Butler and surrendered all three runs on seven hits.  She had six strikeouts and three walks in four-and-a-third innings.  Kacey Starwalt pitched the final two-and-two-thirds innings, allowing just two hits.
