RIO GRANDE, P.R. - The Purdue women's golf team shot a solid round of 291 on Monday, climbing four spots to eighth place in the team standings at the second day of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, hosted by the Boilermakers at the Rio Mar Country Club River Course. Junior Aurora Kandid the bulk of the damage, shooting a career-best round of 68 to move to five-under and take over first place on the individual leaderboard.

After posting a team score of 306 on Sunday, the Boilermakers shaved 15 strokes off of their second round to total 597 so far in the tournament. Along with Kan's 68, sophomore Brooke Beegle rebounded from yesterday's 86 to card a second-round 73 (+1), while junior Johanna Tillström pared her first-round 82 down to a second-round 74 (+2). Sophomore Anna Appert Lund and freshman August Kim duplicated their first-round scores of 76 and 77, respectively. Freshman Ashley Yarbroughcontinued her solid individual play as well, carding a second-round score of 73 (+1), and is tied for 19th individually at 147 (+3) for the tournament.

After carding a bogey on No. 9 to start the day, Kan came out firing on the back-nine, birdying four of her next eight holes and adding a fifth birdie on No. 7 as she wrapped up. Beegle opened with a bogey as well, starting on No. 12, but answered quickly with a birdie on 13 and then rattled off 11 straight pars. She turned in bogies on No. 7 and No. 10, but finished with a birdie on No. 11 to wrap up the Boilermakers' No. 2 score on the day.

After opening with a birdie on No. 13, Yarbrough hit a rough patch with a bogey on No. 15 and a double bogey on No. 16. She settled down as she headed to the first tee, making two birdies, nine pars and just one more bogey the rest of the way.

Arkansas continued to have firm hold on the team lead, shooting a tournament-best 283 on day two, and improving the Razorbacks' two-day total to a five-under, 571. Their trio of Emily Tubert, Emma Lavy and Gaby Lopez are tied for second place in the team standings at three-under, 141. Augusta State sits in second, 13 strokes back, at 584 with a second-round 287, and Big Ten rival Northwestern jumped from ninth to third place in the team standings with a round of 290 and overall score of 15-over, 591.

The final day of competition starts tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. (ET), with the Boilermakers starting the round on the front-nine at holes No. 6 through 10. Yarbrough will start the day on No. 18.
