VILLANOVA, Pa. – Sophomore guard Lexus Murry scored a career-high 16 points on Wednesday night in a losing effort as Butler dropped a 61-46 decision to the Villanova Wildcats.
Murry scored 14 of her team-high 16 points in the second half. She put together a great all-around game with five assists, three rebounds and zero turnovers. Unfortunately for Butler, Murry came down with a left knee injury towards the end of the contest. The extent of the injury is still unknown.
Butler faced a 25-17 deficit at halftime after shooting 25 percent from the field. The turning point on Wednesday night came in the opening minutes of the second half as the Wildcats went on a 15-2 run to extend their lead.
Each team played better in the second half than in the first shooting 44 and 46 percent from the field respectively. Villanova was the better team from 3-point land as the Wildcats hit 10-of-30 from distance compared to just 3-for-11 from Butler.
Devon Kane and Emily Leer were the leading scorers for Nova as the team improves to 19-5 on the year. Kane scored 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Leer was a force for the 'Cats in the first half as she ended the game with 13 points.
Butler struggled to score at times through the game and most 50-50 balls seemed to bounce Villanova's way. Haley Howard scored nine points for the 'Dogs and Daress McClung came off the bench to add eight.
The Bulldogs will return to action with a 2 p.m. tip on Saturday, Feb. 15 when they host the Georgetown Hoyas.
