Zane Fakes Selected for All-Star Game

January 26, 2014

Zane Fakes, a senior tight end on the 2013 Ball State football team, has been
selected to compete in the College All-Star Game Feb. 14.

The second annual game will be held at the newly renovated Paladin Stadium on the
Furman University<http://www.thecollegeallstarbowl.com/category-s/1830.htm>
campus<http://www.thecollegeallstarbowl.com/category-s/1830.htm>. This year's game
will be broadcast nationally on the CBS Sports Network at 6 p.m.

Danny Ford will coach the Nationals, while Willie Jeffries will serve as head coach
of the Americans.  Each coaching staff will feature National Football League and
collegiate stars.  This year's teams are determined by a unique player draft
conducted by each team's coaching staffs and the bowl's scouting department.

Fakes, who was named a 2013 Capital One Academic All-American, was also named to the
All-Mid-American Conference First Team.  He managed 41 receptions for 410 yards and
two touchdowns.  Fakes earned his bachelor's degree from Ball State last May and
spent the fall pursuing his master's degree.  Fakes owned a 3.687 GPA on Ball
State's 4.0 scale.

He will be the second Ball State football player to appear in an all-star game this
postseason.  Senior quarterback Keith Wenning played in the East-West Shrine Game
earlier in January.

The Cardinals posted a 10-3 overall record in 2013 under the direction of head coach
Pete Lembo.  Ball State played in the GoDaddy Bowl, marking the team's second
straight bowl appearance.
