ISU PRESS RELEASE

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State University Men’s Track and Field team will head to Madison, Wisconsin this weekend for the Badger Invitational looking to position their runners higher in the national standing for a chance at the NCAA championships.

The Sycamores will face Wisconsin, DePaul and Marquette in a meet that will not be scored, but could have major implications nationally.

“This would be a great meet to have a scored competition, with four quality teams competing,” said Head Coach John McNichols. “Since it won’t be scored it will change our philosophy a bit, as we go for a great performance. I am optimistic that we will see some nice improvements. This is our second meet of the season and we’ve been able to train for three weeks and I believe that the soreness will be out of our legs.”

One Sycamore that will be looking for a great performance will be senior hurdler, Greggmar Swift. Swift is currently ranked second in the nation. He will be joined by teammate Duane Brown, who is ranked 45th in the nation.

“The nice thing about how hurdle group is the depth that we have,” said McNichols. “Having Greggmar, Adarius, Maurice and Duane means that we take a race wherever we go. Greggmar is one of the best hurdlers in the nation and wherever he goes he always has a race because of his teammates.”

Sophomore John Mascari will also look to improve on his number two ranking this weekend as he runs the 3,000 meter run. Junior Byron Ferrell will look to move up from 44th in the nation in the pole vault and senior Chris Fields will look to move up from 19th in the shot put and 23rd in the weight throw.
