ISU PRESS RELEASE

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Senior guard Anna Munn made a triumphant return to the Indiana State Women’s Basketball lineup as she helped guide her team to a 67-46 win over Evansville on Thursday evening.

Munn led with 20 points including 14 in the first half as ISU remained a perfect 4-0 in Missouri Valley Conference and 9-6 overall.

Munn, who was sidelined due to a shoulder injury against Illinois State on Sunday, went 7-for-14 from the field including a 4-for-7 performance from 3-point range. It also marks her 11th game of the season in double-figures. The senior from Indianapolis, Ind. also grabbed five rebounds and tied for a team-high four assists.

Sophomore forward Marina Laramie posted a season-high 19 points and six rebounds while senior guard Bilqis Abdul-Qaadir posted 13 points and tied a team-high four assists to pace ISU in its largest win of the season.

The Sycamores went 39.7 percent from the field on the night but posted its highest percentage from the free throw line with a 84.6 percent clip on the evening, going 11-for-13. Munn, Abdul-Qaadir and junior guard Natasha Zurek all went perfect on the night.

ISU remained perfect in the Missouri Valley Conference with the win, and the 4-0 start matches head coach Teri Moren’s best start in conference action in her four seasons at the helm.

The Sycamore defense went to work as it held Evansville’s Sara Dickey, the MVC’s leading scorer, to just three points in the first half. Dickey was the lone Purple Ace to score in double-figures with 13 points on the night.

ISU got off to a quick start as they went on 7-0 run by Munn, forcing an UE timeout.  They continued to extend their lead to as many as 17 in the half on an Abdul-Qaadir jumper with 1:40 left to play.

They took their largest halftime lead of the season, 32-20, into the break behind Munn’s 14 points. ISU continued to keep the Purple Aces at bay for most of the second half, as they got no closer than 12 in the final frame.

All Sycamores available for tonight’s game saw action as junior forwards Racheal Mahan and Chelsea Small each recorded a team-high seven rebounds. Mahan also chipped in eight points as sophomore guard Kacey Johnson added three while Small and Zurek each had a bucket.

Junior guard Stephanie Wittman made her second-consecutive start in the lineup for ISU, recording three assists and grabbing four rebounds. Junior forward Jasmine Grier tied Johnson for a team-high two blocks along with a rebound and assist.

As a team, Indiana State dished out 20 assists, picked up eight steals and forced 13 turnovers. Their lone struggle on the night was on the glass, as the two teams tied in rebounding, 43-43, but allowed 17 offensive rebounds.

Up next for the Sycamores is a meeting with Southern Illinois on Sunday. Tipoff is set for 3:05 p.m. ET in SIU Arena and will be seen live on WAWV in Terre Haute.
